Baby looks like a little tadpole, all head, little body and small buds
where the legs will be formed.
The heart begins to pump blood, and the neural tube that will become the
spine closes. The embryo takes on a C-shape; arm and leg buds begin to form; and the skin is
translucent.
The heart is bulging from the body and circulation is well established.
Baby’s heartbeat can be seen on a vaginal ultrasound, beating at around 80 BPM.
The larynx starts to form as does the inner ear. The lining of the
placenta begins to develop but the placenta will take over production of the hormones in
week 12.
Limb buds appear and the primordia of the liver, pancreas, lungs,
and stomach are evident.
Baby's jaw, chin and even cheeks starts to form, tiny as they are, they
will only grow bigger from this week on.
Baby will grow to average length of about ⅓ inch or 7 to 9 mm Crown to Rump
(CR) towards the ends of this week.
